Highland Park PTA

What is the PTA and what are its benefits ?

Welcome to the Highland Park Elementary Parent Teacher Association (PTA) membership page. Membership in the HP PTA provides opportunities for parents to meet other parents. It also provides a forum for teachers to discuss education, health and welfare issues impacting our children. Being part of the PTA connects families with the school, resulting in a wider support group and making school involvement easier. Ultimately, PTA provides the opportunity to serve, volunteer and contribute to the welfare of all children at Highland Park. Through PTA activities, you will find a variety of activities through which to share your special talents.

HP membership also provides access to special discounts offered through the Texas PTA, including discounts at La Quinta Hotels, Schlitterbahn, Fiesta Texas and Seaworld, BarnesandNoble.com and Dell.

And don’t forget the wonderful HP Scottie Directory that is free for all members of the HP PTA (one directory per family). Published each fall, the directory is another important connection to fellow parents, teachers and students.

How does the PTA help our school?

Fortunately for Highland Park, our PTA is strongly supported by its parents and teachers. The HP PTA funds activities at HP that are not ordinarily included in AISD budgets. Just some of the benefits HP receives thanks to PTA fundraising efforts:

  • Classroom enrichment materials across all grade levels, including Special Ed., Art, PE, Music, and Technology
  • Professional development and general school and office support
  • Financial assistance for school supplies, Spanish tuition, field trips, etc.
  • Student Programs, including
    • International Day, Scottie Olympics, Reflections, Student Savings Program, Book Fair, Science Fair
    • Safety Patrol
    • Handwriting without Tears Program classroom materials
    • Accelerated Math Program Supplies
    • Character Education (C.L.A.S.S.)
  • Subsidies for Yearbook, Student Directory, and Back-to-school Picnic, when necessary

How does the PTA raise money?

The PTA raises money through its memberships, costing $12 per individual, and by fundraisers during the year. Membership must be renewed every year. Due to changes in Texas PTA bylaws, HP can no longer offer family memberships. We encourage every adult in your child’s family to join by purchasing an individual membership.
