Spanish Program

Highland Park PTA funds the Spanish program at Highland Park Elementary. This program teaches the students Spanish as well as many Spanish traditions. Each family is asked to pay $120 per student for an entire year of Spanish. This money is collected in the Spring and Fall. Many volunteers are needed for special events such as El Dia del los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo as well as many others. For funding questions, check the status of your annual Spanish tuition, and scholarships, please contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Safety Patrol

The Highland Park Safety Patrol is a program designed to promote leadership development in fifth grade students while they earn community service hours. They develop self-confidence as they help encourage parents and students to follow our safety plan. Selected Safety Patrol members have one week assignments, Monday through Friday afternoons, approximately five to six times during the school year. Recruiting for Safety Patrol members takes place each Spring with a formal announcement sent to all fourth grade students. Interested fourth graders must complete an application that includes a signature from a parent or guardian and they are required to attend a training session. Student Savings Program

Teach your child the valuable lesson of saving money by participating in the Highland Park Student Savings Program! This program promotes the weekly habit of saving for the future. Deposits of any amount can be made each week at school. Deposits will be placed in each student's individual savings account at our sponsoring bank, Wells Fargo Bank. Quarterly statements will be received at home. Deposit Day is every Thursday from 7:30 am to 7:45 am in front of the office.

C.L.A.S.S. – Highland Park Students have Character, Leadership, Active Minds, Skills & Service

Our C.L.A.S.S. program is now facilitated by our Student Service Council. Elections and activities of the Council all center around service to the school and the community. Members will help facilitate monthly CLASS service opportunities. Our theme for the 2009-2010 will be A Community of Readers and Leaders and we plan to incorporate elements of the Future Problem Solving Service Learning model. Our goal is to develop in students a life-long commitment to service for others, to sharing our time and talents with those in need. All Highland Park students and parents are encouraged to join us. Activities will vary each session to provide appropriate opportunities for children in different grade levels. Students who contribute at least 8 hours of community service during the year will be recognized in May with a Student Service Certificate. These service hours can include any volunteer work done through families, Scouts, church/synagogue, or other community programs. Birthday Book Club

The Highland Park birthday book club is a wonderful way to honor your child's birthday and at the same time support our school library. In the library, there is a trolley full of new books for all ages. You can choose a book from the trolley with a donation of $15, or you can purchase your own special new book that you would like to see in the library. After you pick a book, please fill out a dedication form and take it to the librarian. In addition to being the first one to check out the new book, your child's picture will be taken with the book and put on the Birthday Book bulletin board! Our library appreciates your support!
